MITACS Umbrella SMART

About the umbrella

The “Convergence-by-Design” MITAC umbrella program builds upon the work of the SMART Healthy Cities Implementation Science training platform, which was designed to co-create with trainees and partners the bridges and shifts in knowledge, mindsets, skills and tools necessary to tackle many of the challenges faced in urban environments. Specifically, to co-create smart and financially viable solutions to improve i) food access, ii) mobility, iii) housing, and iv) health in Canadian individuals, enterprises, communities and populations, including Indigenous. The trailblazing digital-powered SMART Healthy Cities Training Platform is designed to accelerate the training of the next generation of health, social sciences and humanities, management, engineering, natural and computer science researchers and professionals who can go beyond what has been possible so far in finding ways to make Canadian cities healthier, more livable, and more resilient, thus improving population health and sustainable prosperity. This initiative is supported by a 6-year grant co-funded by the Canadian national funding agencies, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC.
